Dr Carol Dweck and her colleagues studied students attitudes towards failure. Their research uncovered that students who believed intelligence could be developed were more likely to succeed. These children possessed a growth mindset and the understanding that effort makes them stronger.
So here’s where we really dig into the Power of Yet. This concept was introduced in a TED talk by Carol Dweck, and while it’s not the same as the YET I encountered during recovery, there are some interesting parallels between the two ideas. For me, the “Power of Yet” poster has been a powerful strategy. Such a simple reminder to persevere can be the difference between a student who gives up and one who routinely concludes that understanding will come with more effort, questions, or use of additional strategies.
